Written for SATB choir. Essential Ingredients was originally written for Bobby Baker's performance piece Box Story, which opened in the London International Festival of Theatre 2001.

Starting off gradually, this melodic piece builds in intensity over 7 minutes, interweaving the piano and soprano saxophone in a tighter design until fading again as the piece draws to a close.
