From arranger John LaBarbera: 'Brother Griff McSmith' is dedicated to all of the organ trios that were part of my early, live jazz listening experiences. The title is a composite of the names of the artists I listened to in the famous 'Pythodd Club' in Rochester, NY. Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Johnny Hammond Smith and others. It's a stomping, back beat shuffle with plenty of open blowing space for your best soloists. Guitar should be familiar with the classic 'Charleston' groove. All marcato (^) markings are played as a short, fat note. Choruses at 41 & 65 can be opened for solos with backgrounds last time and taking the last ending.
