Breakthrough is a medium-advanced level, uptempo modal swing chart featuring solos for piano, tenor sax, trumpet and drums. An exciting opening leads to a theme voiced for the three horns and an expandable solo section based on a series of minor 7th chords. Building backgrounds lead to an interlide section featuring a three-horn soli with exchanges with the ensemble. The shout chorus is followed by an open vamp for an extended drum solo moving to a final recap of the tune with an energy-filled ensemble climax. Medium Difficult.
