This magnificent scoring of 'Carol of the Bells' by Rich DeRosa (professor of composition/arranging at University of North Texas) was part of a long overture originally commissioned by the WDR Big Band, Germany. Bob Curnow's adaptation of Rich's score allows the traditional jazz ensemble to perform a 5-minute contemporary setting that will be a wonderful addition to any big band jazz Christmas concert. You will find this arrangement to be full of lush harmonies, marvelous key changes and counterpoint. There is no improvisation in this edited version. However, the complete pro version is available with improvisation for alto saxophone and flugelhorn (SMP-1192). 5-5-4-4
