A gentle bossa nova, somewhat reminiscent of early Herbie Hancock. This is an advanced band arrangement. Scored for five saxes (AATTB), five trumpets, five trombones, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. Both alto saxes and first tenor double on flutes. Second tenor and baritone sax double on clarinets. First trumpet range goes up to a high Eb in one spot, with several high Ds. Second and third trumpets double on flugelhorns. This bossa nova was recorded by Buddy Childers on his CD entitled Just Buddies as well as by the Cal State Northridge A band, who originally commissioned the piece. Second trumpet (flugelhorn) and first alto sax are the featured soloists. In between solos the rhythm section drops out and the horns do an a capella ensemble chorus that will challenge your best players. Playing time is approximately seven minutes. Difficult.
