I wrote this arrangement to open my CD, 'Like It Is'. It's always been a tune on which players have loved to improvise, and I thought this unique rendition would not only give the tune a different and updated character, but also be fun for the ensemble, giving them plenty to dig into. The somewhat abstract opening leads to solo sections for trombone and alto & tenor saxophones, as well as drum breaks following the shout chorus and bringing the chart to a close. -John Fedchock This arrangement was nominated for a Grammy award in 2015 in the 'Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella' category.
