These five pieces focus on the flute choir's ability to emulate the sound of the calliope, a steam organ often found in carnival settings or on old riverboats. The composition consists of five character movements, each invoking the spirit of a quirky carnival: (Big Top Parade; Dance of the Blue Bear; A Tilted Carousel; The Lonesome Clown; Vanishing Magician).
