The 1st movement contains two main themes, one short stated at the opening while the 2nd is more lyrical. The 2nd movement is slow with a rising motif 1st introduced by the piano. The last movement has a play of different moods ranging from jauntiness to mock innocence. A short cadenza for the flute leads to race between the flute and piano to be the first to the double bar.
