Nordic Spirits, dedicated to Shauna Thompson and the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir, was premiered at the 45th Annual National Flute Association Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Just under ten minutes in length, this work aims to capture the essence of ancient Scandinavia through folk music. Though the tunes are original compositions, they are designed to recall the native melodies of Sweden, Finland, and Norway, along with added harmonic, textural, and contrapuntal elements.
