Rachel Was was written in remembrance of the life of Rachel Aliene Corrie (1979-2003). Rachel lost her life March 16, 2003 in Gaza. She was 23 years old. Rachel lived her life working for peace and social justice. She was a gifted writer and poet. From an early age Rachel had strong convictions and sought to create a better world for everyone, protecting those less privileged, in whatever capacity she felt possible. Her journey eventually took her to the Gaza Strip. Rachel died trying to help and protect those who were unable to protect themselves or had no voice. This piece remembers her life and honors her sacrifice. -Jennifer Grady
