Bernhard Heiden, the well-known composer and teacher, was born in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany in 1910. A pupil of Hindemith, he came to theUnitedStates in 1935 and taught at the Art Center Music School in Detroit; he was later made Professor of Music and chairman of the composition department at Indiana University. He has written music in many genres: theatreworks, orchestral, chamber and also instrumental works. His Quartet For Horns (1981) was written for the International Horn Society.
