Lascia ch'io pianga' is a soprano aria from the Opera Rinaldo and is a popular concert piece. The Opera Rinaldo was composed in 1711 and was the first Italian language Opera written specifically for the London stage. It's a story of love, war and redemption, set at the time of the First Crusade. It was a great succes with the public and is regarded as one of Händel's greatest operas.
