Cliffe Hangin' was scored so that it can be performed by three experienced trombonists (parts 1-3) and four beginning-level trombonists (parts 4-7). Conductors are welcome to assign multiple performers to each trombone part (the premiere performance featured Wycliffe Gordon and two advanced school musicians on parts 1-3, and almost 50 trombonists aged 9-16 were assigned to parts 4-7). The rhythm section parts can be played by beginning-level performers (playing suggested parts) or embellished by experienced players. And remember: All trombonists must have a plunger!
