This sonata (from 'Canzoni e Sonate') is comparable to Gabrieli's 'Pian 'e Forte' since both were written for two, four-voiced choirs, and both were among the first compositions to have designated dynamics. The editor has lowered the key a whole step, used modern clefs, added tempo suggestions, slurs and phrasing. Duble meters have been halved, and the triple sections quartered.
