Black Bottom Stomp is a composition by Jelly Roll Morton (his real name was Ferdinand Joseph Lemott), born in New Orleans in 1885. He claimed, perhaps not too modestly, to have invented jazz i 1902. Nevertheless, he is a legendary piano player and a pivotal figure in early jazz. With his band Jelly Roll Morton & His Red Hot Peppers he recorded a number of tunes during the 1920s which are regarded as classics. Amongst them, Black Bottom Stomp, recorded in 1926.

To the Conductor
That particular recording is also the inspiration for this arrangement. I have tried to make it more exciting for the musicians by distributing some of the solos from Morton's combo too various sections of the concert band. For instance, the clarinet solo has become tutti woodwinds, the piano is tuned percussion, the trombones have the trumpet break and the trumpets replace the banjo.
As this tune was made before the swing-era of the 1930s and -40s, the 8th notes should be played even in this arrangement.
