Beschreibung:
Cantique de Jean Racine' is a composition by Gabriel Fauré. The text, 'Verbe égal au Très-Haut' ('Word, one with the Highest'), is a French paraphrase by Jean Racine of a Latin hymn from the breviary for matins, 'Consors paterni luminis'.
The original 'Cantique de Jean Racine' was written for mixed choir and piano or organ with chorus but later, in 1866, it was revised for chorus, harmonium and string quintet. In 1906, finally, the work was orchestrated.
Dutch arranger Jos van de Braak transcribed 'Cantique de Jean Racine' for chorus with accompaniment of a small Symphonic Band.
