Ritmico is a driving, energetic overture for symphonic band. Singing melodic lines are underpinned by infectious rhythmic grooves in the percussion and bass instruments which define the main theme. The middle section is a chorale that builds gradually as a pastoral theme stated in the woodwind choir expands both harmonically and instrumentally to a sweeping climactic statement which then transitions into a final recapitulation of the main theme. This time, the melody's reprisal is propelled forward with the accompaniment of counterpoint, winding up in dramatic intensity to the exclamatory and exciting conclusion to the work.
