Written in memory of the composer's grandfather, this work is based on the old Irish melody 'Slane' (also the hymn tune for 'Be Thou My Vision'). The work is a set of free-flowing variations, many exhibiting a dance-like quality. Though written over a long period of time, the work exudes a spontaneous quality, as well as tremendous imagination and compositional craft.
