Visions of Australia ist ein musikalisches Panoramabild, das sich mit den Epochen der australischen Geschichte von den Vorfahren der Aborigines bis hin zu seiner noch unbekannten Zukunft beschäftigt. Die Reise beginnt mit einer Hommage an die urtümliche Vergangenheit Australiens, und erinnert an die Ankunft der britischen Marine sowie die Errichtung der ersten Siedlung am Ufer des Sydney Harbour. Die Route schlängelt sich dann von der Entwicklung der Elektrizität und der Kommunikation über die Kriege bis in die Gegenwart. Nach einem kurzen Rückblick in die Vergangenheit schliesst die Musik mit einem mitreissenden und patriotisch anmutenden marschmässigen Abschnitt, der auf eine selbstbewusste und mutige Zukunft hindeutet. Das Werk ist eine echte Herausforderung für alle Register und für jedes Publikum leicht zugänglich.
Engl.: 'Visions of Australia' is a musical panorama paying tribute to the epochs in Australia's history from its Aboriginal predecessors through to its 'yet to be determined' future. The journey begins with a tribute to Australia's aboriginal past, the arrival of the British Navy and the establishment of the first colony on the shores of Sydney Harbour. The journey then meanders through to the development of electricity and communication, through the wars and to the present. Following a brief reflection on the past, the music concludes with a stirring and patriotic march-like section representing a confident and bold future. The work is a great challenge for all sections of the band and will be easily accessible to any audience.
