A Festive Overture is bravura in nature. The outer sections are busy and colourful and frame a more expansive, but no less urgent, middle section which develops a large arching theme. The work ends as it began, with excitement and exuberance. The first performance was given at the Festival of Brass, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester by the Brighouse & Rastrick Band, conductor Alan Morrison, on Sunday 28thtJanuary 2007.
