Aurelio Porfiri is director of choral activities at the Saint Rosa de Lima school and Director of Musical Activities at Our Lady of Fatima Girls School. He is visiting conductor for the music education dept. of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music China - . As a composer, he writes in a wide range of forms, including oratorios, masses, motets and hymns in Italian, Latin and English. De Profundis is a demanding piece, requiring a choir that can manage to sing challenging harmonic changes. But what is most important is the linear dimension more than the vertical one, the good singing of every melodic line, in the style of the golden era of vocal music, Renaissance time. So in this piece, as in many others of Aurelio Porfiri, there is this blending of tradition and progress that go always hand in hand -
