Born in Glasgow in 1870, Arnott moved to London when he was 10 and did not start seriously studying music until he was around 20. After graduating, Arnott became organist at a number of churches in London then Glasgow, all the while composing anthems such as the beautiful Blessed Are The Pure In Heart, which takes its name and text from a verse in the Bible.
