This volume celebrates the music of Purcell who composed some of the greatest English music, for the Chapel Royal and Westminster Abbey, between 1677 and 1695. His music is charaterised by its expression and originality, well over a hundred of his anthems and devotional songs survive. This volume has selected five of his most popular anthems from this vast repertoire. They are predominatly choral and were probably written between 1680 and 1685.
