Don't Fence Me In was originally written for the movie 'Adios, Argentina' from 1934, to which Cole Porter was asked to write a catchy cowboy-song. 10 years after, the singer Roy Rogers performed it in the movie Hollywood Canteen.
It was also recorded by Bing Crosby and The Andrew Sisters which achieved 1st place on the Billboard list for eight weeks in 1944/45.
Other great artists who has recorded the song are Kate Smith, David Byrne, Lynn Anderson, Bob Hope, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Autry, Willie Nelson and Clint Eastwood.
In Norway, the song was hugely popular in 1990 thanks to a recording by the rock band Vazelina Bilopph(o/ggers.
This arrangement is written in a light 'Hillbilly Swing' which feature both melodic and rhytmic elements in all the parts.
