Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) was greatly influenced by his contemporaries, Ravel, Debussy and Roussel, yet implemented his own, unique style. His Les Citations for Oboe, Harpsichord, DoubleBass and Percussion is unusual but still widely performed.
This Dutilleux piece was first published in 1985, however the composer made two revisions, in 1991 and 2010. LesCitations is unusual in instrumentation, tonality, rhythm and structure, and exploits the extended techniques of all the instruments. The two movements of this 1995 publication are, 1) For Aldeburgh, and 2)FromJanequin to Jehan Alain. Dutilleux's Les Citations remains popular to this day and is an exciting piece for performers and audiences alike.
