Seyfried uses the same key as the Requiem, its distinctive orchestral sonority and quotes two passages from Mozart's work prompted by clauses in the liturgical text. The 'Libera me' was widely used in nineteenth-century Vienna, both in its original version for voices and instrumental ensemble, and for voices and organ alone. This edition allows both types of performance. .
