The British composer Elizabeth Maconchy (1907-1994) was a highly versatile and popular composer. She studied at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Vaughan Williams, butcontinentalEuropean modernism proved to be a greater influence on her music; she admired both Bartok and Janacek.
