Under its original title of invention for Orchestra; it so impressed Varse with its counterpoint that Varse suggested the new title Organum as a reference to the ancient style of counterpoint. Ruggles also prepared a 2-piano version along with the original orchestration. John Kirkpatrick arranged a solo piano version under Ruggles's supervision. First published in New Music Edition in 1947; it is now published in this corrected and newly engraved edition; based on Kirkpartrick's original manuscript with Ruggles's editorial markings.
