Noten von Alexander Borodin
Alexander Porfirjewitsch Borodin (*12. November 1833 in St. Petersburg, † 27. Februar 1887 in St. Petersburg), kurz Alexander Borodin, war ein russischer Naturwissenschaftler und Mediziner, der aber vielmehr durch sein kompositorisches Schaffen internationale Berühmtheit erlangte.
Obwohl sein musikalischer Stil durchaus noch der Romantik zugeordnet werden kann (er wurde Mitglied der nationalrussischen Gruppe der ›Russischen Fünf‹ auch ›Mächtiges Häuflein‹ genannt, dessen Stil auch als episch romantisch bezeichnet wird), sind bereits Anklänge an den Impressionismus in Borodins farbenreichen Werken spürbar.
In seinen Musiken finden sich Elemente der russischen Volksmusik wieder, und auch im weiteren Sinne orientalische Einflüsse (östliche Themen) lassen sich erkennen, besonders in seiner Oper Fürst Igor, deren Handlung teilweise beim Volk der Polowetzer (Mongolei) angesiedelt ist. Deren Polowetzer Tänze waren so erfolgreich, dass sie -wie heutige Single-Auskoppelungen- separat verlegt und vielfältig bearbeitet wurden.
Borodins Œuvre umfasst weiters drei Sinfonien und die sinfonische Dichtung Eine Steppenskizze aus Mittelasien, 10 kammermusikalische und acht Klavierwerke, 16 Lieder und die Serenade von 4 Kavalieren für eine Dame (ein Quartett für 4 Männerstimmen mit Klavierbegleitung) sowie Transkriptionen für Klavier zu vier Händen von eigenen Kompositionen. Zahlreiche Kompositionsfragmente wurden von Borodin nicht vollendet, davon gelten viele als verloren.
