I admired him as an innovator, who enriched the technique of playing the instrument in a manner unparalleled in piano literature. Later his creative genius captivated me, as he opened up new paths for the future. His works paved the way for impressionism, expressionism, 20th-century folklorism and dodecaphonic thinking.
