Andiamo! (“Let’s Go!”) This piece was written to feature the viola section, they start the frenzied melody and we’re off! After a trip to Italy, the composer fondly remembered one phrase the tour guide would exclaim when people were lagging too far behind, “Andiamo! Let’s Go!” And everyone would scramble to follow her lead. As a teacher, this phrase came in handy when we needed to get going. I had an awesome viola section that was always “ready to go!” so this piece was inspired by them and dedicated to all the students who work hard in each rehearsal to make major progress in a short amount of time.
