Over 20 years of professional drumming and educating have been focused on my DRUMMETHOD VOLUME 1. When I start working with beginners my first aim is to make them feel comfortable and matched with the whole drumset. I've made the experience that no matter if children or adults, fun is the main source for the energy one needs to learn playing an instrument. And in 99% it's much more fun to hit cymbals and drums and kick the bassdum instead of practicing endlessly this triste RLRLRLRL - stuff on a bouncepad. So Terra Drummica Part 1 really starts on the drumset. You learn to hit the HiHat with the right hand, the snaredrum with the left hand and kick the bassdrum with the right foot. All in quarter-notes.
My conception is to introduce the student to the standard quantisations, beginning with quarter notes, then eights, sixteens and triple eights. While 'walking' through this quantisations the student gets introduced to really standard grooves and fill-ins of the main musicstyles like e.g. Rock, Shuffle, Funk and Jazz so that he's able to play in a band as soon as possible. At the end of the book there is an 'first aid'-chapter including 23 Grooves of all important stylistics, so no one can frighten you saying 'play a Bossa Nova, dude'. One of my main aims while concepting this school was to stagger the difficulties very carefully. Not only from chapter to chapter, but also within every chapter from exercise to exercise . This avoids frustration and makes sure that your technic is free from any 'holes'.
Of course you get introduced to basic technical things like paradiddle and accents, but you are shown immediatly how to use these things on the drumset.
