Die Reihe Professional Editions des Verlages Hal Leonard ist eine spannende und anspruchsvolle Sammlung von Big Band-Literatur vieler jazziger Stile und Genres (Grade 5) und bietet Ihnen ein buntes Repertoire an Jazz-Klassikern, Film- und Weihnachtsmusiken sowie swingende oder funkige Arrangements oder Bearbeitungen im Latin-Stil bekannter Titel aus Pop und Rock. Hier sind sieben repräsentative Beispiele aus der Serie ›Professional Editions‹:
- La Fiesta von Chick Corea: Hier ist eine prickelnde afrokubanische Version im Arrangement von Michael Philip Mossman des Chick Corea-Klassikers. Sicher eine beeindruckende Ergänzung für jedes Programm erfahrener Bands. Perfekt als Feature für Ihren Pianisten – aber der flexible Soloteil ermöglicht es auch, andere Spieler miteinzubeziehen.
- Aunt Hagar's Blues von William Christopher Handy: Von Meisterarrangeur Michael Abene kommt hier ein Slow-Cooking-Blues-Chart mit Klavier und wunderbar ausgefallener Ensemblebesetzung. Dies ist die authentische Version, die ursprünglich von der ›GRP All-Star Band‹ auf ihrer Grammy-prämierten CD ›ALL BLUES‹ aufgenommen und für Standard-Jazzensemble-Instrumentierung neu arrangiert wurde. Erfordert eine Verdoppelung der Holzbläser und eine ausgereifte Rhythmusgruppe.
- Roman Notes (Alto Sax Feature) von John LaBarbera: Dieses Original von John La Barbera mit seinem harten, groovenden 12/8-Gefühl dient als Altsaxophon-Feature, das auch die gesamte Band auf die Probe stellt. Die geschickte Komposition lässt es härter klingen, als es wirklich ist, und macht es zu einer großartigen Wahl für Festivals oder Wettbewerbe.
- You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To von Cole Porter: Dieser Up-tempo-Swing aus der Arrangeursfeder von Michael Abene beginnt mit dem gesamten Ensemble auf einer quasi improvisierten Linie, die auf den Änderungen dieses bekannten Cole Porter-Standards basiert. Es folgen Soli für Trompete und Flöte (optional Tenor) mit gut strukturierten Ensemble-Hintergründen. Die Melodie taucht schließlich gegen Ende auf, durchsetzt mit einer kleinen Combo, während das Stück zu einem aufregenden, ausgewachsenen Finale brüllt. (Alt 1 verdoppelt sich auf Sopran, Tenor 1 verdoppelt sich auf Flöte).
- I'm Beginning To See The Light von Duke Ellington: Auf seinem Album ›Night Flight‹ hat Sammy Nestico diesen großartigen Standard in ein neues Licht gerückt und ihn in eine Ensemble-Show verwandelt, die einfach nicht nachlässt. Es gibt Soli für Alt und Trompete und einige schöne Stellen, an denen der Schlagzeuger sein Können zeigen kann. Toller Opener!
- I Mean Monk von Thelonious Monk: Der Jazz-Star Thelonious Monk hat so viele klassische Melodien komponiert, und dieses kreative Kraftpaket von Komposition enthält Ausschnitte von sechzehn davon! Fordern Sie Ihr Publikum (und Ihre Spieler) heraus, sie alle zu finden, da sie zwischen Hintergrundfiguren und Gegenmelodien versteckt sind. Antonio J. Garcias gekonntes Werk basiert auf der Akkordfolge von Monks »I Mean You« und ist eine wahre Lehrstunde für das melodische Genie dieses Jazz-Meisters.
- Furioso von Michele Fernández: Dieses kurze Glanzstück ist eine Originalkomposition von Michele Fernández in einem auffälligen Merengue-Stil und eignet sich perfekt als Opener oder mitreißender Titel für erfahrene Ensembles. Es bietet brodelnde Saxophonlinien, offene Solomöglichkeiten und sorgfältig notierte Rhythmusstimmen. Umwerfend!
