Gatens basuner (“The Trombones in the street”), originally entitled “Til gamle Hauge”, was written in 1958. Shortly before Norway’s National Day (May 17th), the band in which the composer played the Euphonium, purchased four trombones.
At that time, trombones was not very common in Norwegian amateur bands. To honor the new instruments, and the four players who started practicing on them, he changed the title of the march to “Gatens basuner”
