Beschreibung:
Der Cellist, Dirigent und Komponist Georg Goltermann, geb. am 19.8.1824 in Hannover, gest. am 29.12.1898 in Frankfurt am Main, erhielt Cellounterricht beim Solocellisten der königlichen Hofkapelle in Hannover, August Christian Prell (1805-1885), einem Schüler von Bernhard Romberg. 1847-49 setzte er seine Studien in München fort bei dem berühmten Cellisten Joseph Menter sowie in Komposition bei Ignaz Lachner, dem Kapellmeister an der Münchener Hofkapelle. Goltermann unternahm zahlreiche Konzertreisen als Cellist und wirkte ab 1853 als 2. Kapellmeister (ab 1874 als 1. Kapellmeister) am Stadttheater Frankfurt am Main. Er schrieb zahlreiche Werke für Cello und hatte eine besondere Begabung für das romantische Charakterstück, mit lyrischen Miniaturen wie Ballade, Elegie, Lied ohne Worte oder Tänzen. Da seine Kompositionen meist nicht allzu schwer sind, finden sie bei Liebhabern und im Unterricht viele Freunde. Die Mazurka stammt aus dem Zyklus Trois morceaux caractéristiques op. 41, die 1864 bei Schott erschienen (Plattennummer 17419).
