Beschreibung:
Natürlich ist das die berühmte 'Méditation' über das erste Präludium aus dem Bachschen 'Wohltemperierten Klavier', nachträglich mit dem Text 'Ave Maria' versehen, der 'Hit' von Charles Gounod. Doch im 19. Jahrhundert gab es noch einen zweiten Ohrwurm: die Hymne à Sainte Cécile, eine 'Méditation religieuse' - in der originalen Version mit Orchester (1865) seinem Freund Jean Delphin Alard gewidmet. Gounod hatte bereits mit seiner 'Cäcilienmesse' 1855 ein Werk zu Ehren der Heiligen Cäcilie, der Schutzpatronin der Kirchenmusik, geschrieben, eine Messe, die sich großer Beliebtheit erfreute. Die Hymne ist da gegen instrumental und lässt die Violine über einer arpeggierten, harfenartigen Begleitung eine wunderschöne Melodie 'singen'. (Später hat Gounod noch eine weitere Fassung vorgelegt, mit dem Text 'Ave verum'.) Stichnummer 19323, 1868 veröffentlicht.
