Noten von Edvard Grieg - Norwegens musikalische Seele
Edvard Hagerup Grieg (*15. Juni 1843 in Bergen, † 4. September 1907 in Bergen), kurz Edvard Grieg (manchmal auch aufzufinden unter Edward oder Eduard Grieg), war ein norwegischer Komponist und Pianist der Romantik und Schöpfer solch bekannter Melodien wie In der Halle des Bergkönigs und Solvejgs Lied.
Grieg, dessen kompositorischer Schwerpunkt vor allem auf der Kammer- und Klaviermusik liegt, verstand es -wie sein gleichaltriger, russischer Kollege Rimski-Korsakow-, aktuelle Stilmittel der Spätromantik geschickt mit Elementen der Volksmusik zu verknüpfen.
Seine Lieder mit Vertonungen von Texten von Heine, Ibsen und Goethe, der Liederzyklus Haugtussa, op. 67 und drei Chorwerke runden zusammen mit den farbenreichen Orchesterwerken sein Œuvre ab. Zu letzteren zählen Schauspielmusiken, Suiten, zwei Sinfonien und das Konzert für Klavier und Orchester a-moll, op. 16, sein einziges Klavierkonzert, das Grieg vollendet hatte.
