I spent more time on the creation of the 'Study in three movements' than on other orchestral works that were longer. This usually surprises people who don't write. However, the more instrumental limitations, the more difficult it is to elaborate a wide and coherent musical discourse. That is what I tried to do in this work: to wake up the sleeping 'giant' and let the drums sing reinforcing their tectonic character, their caustic rhythms and their ancestral accents. I kept the purpose of the technique, even if it looked sophisticated and using fresh ideas that are direct and instinctive. Miquel Pardo.
