Der Komponist Peter Schindler über diese Einzelausgabe aus „Perpetuum mobile“:
Amor ist wild, stark und unerbittlich! Besser ist es am Ende doch, allein zu bleiben und sich mit Phoenix zu verbinden. Welche dramatische Aussage einer Person, die von der Liebe enttäuscht wurde! Wer ist Phoenix (Phenice)? Der Phoenix ist ein Vogel, so genannt, weil er purpurn ist (colorem phoeniceum habet). Er ist in der ganzen Welt einzigartig und als Phoenix aus der Asche bis heute ein mächtiges Symbol. Der Vogel erscheint in verschiedenen mittelalterlichen literarischen Werken, darunter Gedichten, Legenden und religiösen Traktaten.
Der Satz „Amor durus est“ auf den Text No. 142 aus dem Codex Buranus ist teilweise fugiert. Die Hauptaussagen des Stückes werden repetitiv skandierend in chromatischen Tonfolgen vorgetragen. „Amor durus est“ ist ein anspruchsvolles Stück, das den dritten Akt von „Perpetuum mobile“, der mit „Flamma amoris“ (Von der Liebe entflammt) überschrieben ist, ernüchtert und virtuos beendet.
